Parents Attitude Towards Pharmacotherapy for Dyslexic Children with Behavioral Disorder as Co-morbid who underwent Remedial Therapy at Melinda2 Child Development Center during April 2019-June 2019

Abstract

Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty which often has behavior disorders as co-morbidities such as Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Conduct Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. According to evidence-based treatment, this case was best managed by multimodal treatment (behavior, remedial and pharmacotherapy) which had to be delivered simultaneously. The success of case management depends on how the suggested treatment delivered to the patients. However, there had been various parents’ responses regarding pharmacotherapy issue. This study was done in order to gain information upon attitude of parents towards pharmacotherapy issue for their children. This was a quantitative descriptive study, and data collected using survey method in questionnaire form. Subjects of study were parents whose children were diagnosed as dyslexia with behavior disorder as co-morbidities, and underwent remedial therapy in Melinda2 Child Development Center from April 2019 to June 2019. There were 12 respondents who met the inclusion criteria among 42 parents of all dyslexia cases available. This study elaborated 3 components of attitude which were cognitive, affective, and conative. Research showed that 66,7 % parents had positive attitude toward pharmacotherapy. Furthermore, there were no differences on parents attitude towards pharmacotherapy based on educational background and ethnic groups.
